Educator Requirements

Before you begin your journey as a Family Day Care Educator, we will guide you through the essential requirements, certifications, and safety measures necessary to ensure the highest quality of care. Although the screening and certification process may seem thorough, at Excellence in Care, we’re here to support you every step of the way to meet national standards. As a Family Day Care Educator, you are responsible for fulfilling the following requirements:

Insurance and Certifications

  • Public Liability Insurance: Maintain coverage up to $10 million to protect yourself and the families you serve.
  • First Aid Certification: Keep an accredited Senior First Aid Certificate current, including training in Asthma and Anaphylaxis management, as well as Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

Background Checks and Safety

  • Blue Card Requirements: Hold a positive notice blue card and letter. Additionally, all adult occupants and regular visitors in your home must also have current blue cards and letters.
  • Safe Environment: Ensure a safe and hygienic family day care environment, which includes the condition of your premises and all play and care equipment.

Educational Qualifications and Development

  • Minimum Certification: Hold at least a Certificate III in Children’s Services to demonstrate your foundational knowledge and skills.
  • Ongoing Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development and participate in in-service training to continually enhance your skills.

Compliance and Record Keeping

  • Occupational Health and Safety: Adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety requirements to ensure a safe environment.
  • Family Day Care Policies: Comply with all Family Day Care Policies and Procedures to maintain service standards.
  • Incident Reporting: Follow the correct procedures for treating and reporting incidents to ensure transparency and safety.
  • Legislative Compliance: Abide by all State and Federal legislative requirements relevant to Family Day Care.

Emergency Preparedness and Planning

  • Emergency Procedures: Implement correct fire and emergency evacuation procedures when necessary to protect the children in your care.
  • Record Keeping: Meet all relevant ATO and record-keeping obligations to maintain compliance.
  • Activity Planning: Regularly program and plan activities, including completing observations on children in your care to track their development.
